Black Shirt Day – January 15th

Black Shirt Day is January 15th:

Black Shirt Day:
Friday, January 15
In keeping with the District’s commitment last Spring to
take a more active role in developing anti-racism policies
and opportunities, this week the District will be taking up
the call of a local group – the Anti-Racism Coalition
(ARC) Vancouver – to participate in a “Black Shirt Day”.
Much like Pink or Orange Shirt Day, Black Shirt Day provides
us with an opportunity to raise the profile of the issue
while we show our commitment to doing more to be
part of the solution to the systemic racism we know exists
all around us, including in our schools and in our community.
The District team will be sharing a short collection of antiracism
resources on their website (https://
newwestschools.ca), and we welcome any staff, students
and community members to join us in wearing their
black shirts on Friday January 15th, Martin Luther King
Jr’s birthday, to show support for the anti-racism work we
all need to do together.
