Middle School Parent Focus Group

New Westminster School District is conducting a comprehensive review of special education services and programs. As part of the review, we are conducting focus groups facilitated by contracted consultants. The focus groups are just one way in which we are collecting input regarding inclusive practices in New Westminster Schools.

Your feedback and input is very valuable to us and we invite you to a focus group at:

Glenbrook Middle School Library

Tuesday December 10th

6:30pm – 7:45pm

The focus group will be facilitated by Laurie Meston who has been contracted by the school district to assist with the review of special education services and programs.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Raffle Basket Ticket Sales

Dear Parents and Guardians,

QMS PAC Is proud to introduce this year’s wonderful raffle basket fundraiser! Our baskets are filling up quickly…thank you for providing an item or cash donation to add to your child’s classroom basket!

  1. Your child will be coming home this week with a booklet of raffle tickets (yellow). We are asking that each student sell one booklet of tickets. The cost for the tickets are as follows:
    1 ticket for $2
    3 tickets  for $5
    6  tickets for $12
20 tickets (full booklet) for $20
  2. The tickets stubs are to be filled out by the buyer of the tickets (name and contact information included so we can contact the winners). The ticket stubs (and the money collected) are to be kept and later returned to the school. The remainder of the ticket is to be given to the purchaser.
  3. Students can sell tickets to family and friends. Those students selling tickets door to door must be accompanied by a responsible adult (with approval from their parents/guardians).
  4. Ticket stubs, money collected, and unsold tickets are to be returned to the school office in a Ziploc bag or envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and division. If your child is willing and able to sell more than one booklet of tickets, there will be sign-up sheet at the office. We will get extra tickets to them.
  5. Ticket stubs, money collected and unsold tickets are due back on or before Monday, December 9. The PAC will be selling tickets at the beginning of the afternoon performance and evening performances on Thursday, December 12.
  6. The draw for the winners of all six baskets will be held at the beginning of the evening performance on Dec 12th at 7pm.

Thank you for your support of this fundraiser. All proceeds will support student learning and activities.

The QMS PAC Executive,

Michelle, Barb and Murray

June Reminders:

Here are few notices and reminders as we begin a new month:

  1. Final Week:
Wednesday, June 26, 2019, will be a particularly special day for our departing Grade 8 students, as our QMS community honours them with a school leaving ceremony (beginning at 9:15 am). After the assembly, our Grade 8 students will head over to the Multipurpose Room for a potluck lunch.
On Thursday, June 27, 2019, QMS students, staff and parents will be gathering to recognize and celebrate our students’ accomplishments over this past year during the QMS Year End Assembly (beginning at 9:15 am).
  2. The School District will be launching their very own Education Assistant Training Program beginning in September.  This part-time program will be offered in-house and will be facilitated by our very own staff. In these days of chronic EA shortages, this is a key opportunity for us to train EAs and then have them apply to join our district.
The training modules are very comprehensive and were developed by the Burnaby School District.   We are fortunate to be able to partner with Burnaby to offer the program.
There will be an Information Session on:
    Thursday, June 13th7 p.m.
    Learning Commons
    Fraser River Middle School
All interested applicants are invited to attend.

Our online forms are now ready for parent/guardian permission using the SchoolCashOnline (SCOL) program. Please provide consent at your earliest convenience!

Each year, New Westminster Schools asks parents to complete several consent forms to ensure we have parent permission for student participation in school activities.

In order to access these forms, all parents will need to register with SchoolCashOnline. To register, please go to the Queensborough Middle School website at queensboroughschool.ca, click on the “Online Payment” button and then follow the green “School Cash Online” hyperlink to the parent registration site. (See the attached instruction sheet)
