QMS Clubs

Queensborough  Middle School offers a variety of different clubs for students to participate in. Clubs are developed in response to student interest and provide them an opportunity to take part in different activities to engage their bodies and minds.

Lego Club:

The “Lego Club” is a place for students to come and explore their creativity and to make new friends. Students play with regular Lego or build things from Lego sets (for example, Star Wars or Mine Craft), kindly provided by our PAC. The Lego Club is a ‘drop in’ club that meets Wednesdays at lunch. Anyone is welcome. Students are encouraged to come out and have some fun!

Scratch Squad:

The “Scratch Squad” meets Wednesdays at lunch. This is a computer coding club where students learn how to code interactive art, stories, and video games using the visual programming language “Scratch” ( http://bit.ly/1O1Ivvx ).  QMS students are excited to be learning how to create their own video games! You can learn more about Scratch in this TED talk:https://llk.media.mit.edu/news/13/

Students will also be learning how to code in our Computer Exploratory. Learning how to code strengthens students’ creative thinking skills, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving ability.

Yearbook Club:

Yearbook meets on Thursdays at noon for a planning meeting and on Thursdays at 3:00 for a 90 minute work period to create Yearbook Pages.  Our goal is to create a Yearbook that is an interesting mix of information and pictures and to ensure every student is pictured in the yearbook.  We have 9 Grade 8 students on our team and each team member has taken on one or more roles (editor, photographer, page designer or sales team).  Mr. Newcomb and Ms. Schweers are working the the Yearbook Team.

Kindness Club:

Kindness Club meets on Wednesdays at noon. We sponsor RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) in our school and in our community.  This school year the Kindness Club has: taught line dancing to senior citizens, sponsored Yellow Ribbon Day (Taking a Stand Against Teasing) and Buddy Day (Creating connections between Grade 8s and Grade 5s), collected new socks for the Salvation Army Christmas Breakfast and learned about becoming a Global Citizen. Ms. Schweers sponsors the Kindness Club.
